Please Daddy...
Gilby is preparing to leave in the morning for his 3rd of three summer mission trips with students from The Ascent. We miss him when he’s gone, but Myles thinks he’d fit perfectly in the suitcase. They are off to the Dominican Republic this week. Prayers for safe travels and a great all around trip are much appreciated.
So what have we been up to this summer? It’s been pretty low key. We’ve taken Myles swimming a few times, which he loves as long as the other kids aren’t screaming too loudly and he doesn’t get water up his nose. He’s a great people watcher (like his mommy) and is satisfied sitting off to the side watching the big kids. Grandma Jane has been here a lot to help out while Gilby is gone (thanks Mom!) and she and Grandpa Schaefer are preparing to make their official move to Colorado at the end of the month. Yah!
Myles had a bronchoscopy earlier this month to get a better picture of his throat and why he has sleep apnea and such eating difficulties. We learned that his airway is narrower than average and he has some sort of flappy thing - I forgot the official term - that closes over the airway while he’s falling asleep. The docs think this is a big reason for his sleep apnea and are no longer attributing it to his tonsils. Either way we just wait and see if he grows out of it. The scope also told us that he again has reflux, which is probably the reason he went on an eating hiatus for a few weeks there. Hmmm, maybe I shouldn’t have taken him off the Prevacid, oops. But nobody suspected he still had reflux as it is silent, very silent. After three days back on reflux meds he was already eating better again. We’re still pretty much on baby food and I just don’t have the energy at this point to push the table foods. Besides, I really don’t think he’s ready. It takes him approximately 10 minutes to eat a tiny chunk of banana, or a pinto bean. He has a swallow study next month to hopefully get more info to help with feeding.
The other big news of the summer is that I am switching jobs. I soon start as a social worker at The Children’s Hospital. This is the same hospital where Myles had his heart surgery and pretty much where all his specialists are. I’m excited to work with families that may be in similar situations as us. Plus, it’s part time. Wahoo! I’ll have a consistent schedule, no more nights, and more time at home with Myles.
Thanks for reading! I’ve posted more adorable pics of Myles on his page in the summer 2009 album.
